If you are looking for a place to chill out with a glass of wine and a smoke and don't mind a little walk down the colorful Soi 31 on Sukhumvit then look no further then the Wine Loft.
To start this blog off right I decided to head down to the Wine Loft on Sukhumvit Soi 31. I have been there twice in the last week and over all this place is a winner. Both times it was the middle of the day from around 2pm - 4pm. Getting to the Wine Loft can be a bit of a pain as the skytrain stop you want to get off on is the Emporium stop (Prompong Stop). Then you have to walk down Sukhumvit to Soi 31 and go down the Soi a good way (700M?). Put it this way but the time I got there I was hot and sweaty and not in a relaxed frame of mind. The second time I took the driver and it was much more pleasant. So for location the wine Loft gets a 3/5. It is walkable so don’t be put off too much by my description.
Anyway, you get there and basically the place is a top notch Wine shop that has about 5 bottles of Wine that you can order by the glass. I think they use one of those gas back filled wine dispensers to keep the taste fresh. The wine is a great price by the glass ranging in price from 180 baht a glass to 320 baht per glass. The bottle prices also look OK so if you plan on spending a few hours there get a bottle. So I ordered a glass of wine and headed upstairs to the cigar room. The smoking room is great, windows overlooking the tops of trees, nice comfy leather arm chairs, a LCD TV (thank god it was off). Add a glass of wine to the mix with a good cigar and you have a recipe for an outstanding day. I really chilled out after being in this place for about 15 mins, it is not at all pretentious and the staff is really nice. They also have a tapas menu that I tried out and it was pretty good.
They have a cigar menu and the prices seemed high but then again in Asia you can expect to over pay by a factor of 4-6 for cigars. That’s why I always bring my own.
This place is definitely on my places to come back to, but only when I have a driver. Here is a link to a review in Guru that gives you an idea of the wine and food aspects of the place.
Here is my scoring and a few pictures.
Location 3/5
Price 4/5
